About Min Jung

I am Min Jung Kim, an Assistant Professor at Korea University Business School. Before I joined KUBS, I was an Assistant Professor in the Gies College of Business (Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and International Business Group) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

My research aims to understand how external environments affect firms’ strategies and outcomes. First, I study how the geographic concentration of industry activity influences firms’ technological innovation and entrepreneurship. I am especially interested in the dynamics of industry clusters (i.e., changes in concentration over time). Second, I study how adverse conditions—such as adverse regulatory events, policy uncertainty, and trade wars—affect firms’ technological innovation and investment configuration strategies. My work also examines the role of geographic concentration in the relationship between adverse conditions and firms.

My research has been recognized by several grants and awards, including SRF (Strategy Research Foundation) Dissertation Grant, Seth/AIB Dissertation Best Proposal Prize and Scholarship, SMS Annual Conference Best Paper Prize Finalist and Best PhD Paper Prize Finalist, and Gies Research Grant.

I like data visualization, especially using diverse geographical computational skills. As a research context, I am interested in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and semiconductor industries.
